William (Bill) August Senning, Jr of Lubbock, Texas passed away at home on February 19, 2022, at the age of 96. Bill was born in Louisville, Kentucky to William August Senning and Ethel Gray Senning. The Sennings opened the historic Senning's Park, Restaurant and Louisville's first zoo during the Roaring Twenties. At school age Bill moved to Shelbyville, Kentucky where he attended school until he entered the Airforce for two tours of duty as a gunner on a B29 in the Pacific. After military service he attended the University of Kentucky where he became an avid Kentucky Basketball fan. Later he moved to Fort Worth, Texas to work in the insurance industry. There he met his wife of 70 years, Wanda Johnson Senning.
Marriage to Wanda gave him a family of in-laws that he loved. Bill is survived by his son, Robert Senning, and his daughter, Carla Senning, two granddaughters and six great grandchildren. His beloved daughter Nancy preceded him in death in January 2021. His sister, also named Wanda, died at 18 months of age.
Bill was an independent insurance adjuster with offices in Plainview, Amarillo and Lubbock with his son Robert Senning. He was active in civic clubs, boy scouts, and youth sports activities. He had a special interest in Toastmaster's training with teens. He was proud of his efforts to secure the initial flights of Delta Airlines into Lubbock.
In 2002 and again in 2003 Bill suffered a stroke. Throughout the following 20
years he continued working with doctors, nurses and many therapists who kept
him active. He worked continuously with his model railroad collection, loved
Kentucky basketball and followed political activity. He liked to take the family on
surprise trips, especially to Disney World.
The family invites you to celebrate Bill's life on Monday, February 28, 2022 with a visitation beginning at 12pm and Celebration of Life service at 1pm. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
