Wanda M. Gunnels, 94, of Lubbock and formerly of Morton, Texas, passed away May 10, 2017. She was born in August of 1922 in Cement, Oklahoma, to the late George and Winnie Igo. Wanda married Jack Gunnels on August 29, 1941. He preceded her in death December 17, 1995.
She retired from the Cochran County ASCS office after 22 years of service and from the County Judges’ office after 5 years. Wanda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morton and taught Sunday School for over 15 years. She volunteered for 15 years at the Cochran County Livestock Show and held the distinction of being a former Cochran County Woman of the Year. In addition to her husband and parents, Wanda was also preceded in death by one brother, Fred Igo, and two sisters, Glenna Jones and Little Martha.
She is survived by her children: Rita Cox of Katy, TX, Jim and Jenny Gunnels of San Angelo, TX and Cindy Kuehler of Lubbock, TX., four grandchildren: Michael and Geri Youngs, Jay Gunnels, Nolan and Connie Cox, and Christina and Jeremy Day, 10 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She is
further survived by her brothers and sisters: Louis and Mildred Igo of Georgetown, TX, Joe and Lalee Igo of Granbury, TX, Bill and Betty Igo of Gold Canyon, AZ, Ida and Jesse Jones of Lubbock, TX, Betty and George Cooper of San Angelo, and a sister in law, Juanita Igo of Eldorado, TX.
Visitation will be Friday, May 12, 2017 from 5-7pm at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Morton, Texas with Dr. George Cooper officiating and Rush Coffman assisting Interment will follow in the Morton Cemetery.
