Tom graduated from Lamesa High School in 1950 where he excelled in football, track and basketball. He then served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War stationed on the island of Okinawa.
Tom attended both Penn State and Texas Tech University. He was president of McLain Oil Company when he retired in 2002. Shortly after leaving McLain, he joined Pharr RV’s where he stayed until he was 85. He was a longtime member of Southcrest Baptist Church where he was a greeter always smiling and calling people by name.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Carlton and Harvey Dale; and sister, Laverne.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sheryl; daughter, Lorna Pharr (Jerry) of Lubbock; step daughters Sherilyn Box (Robert) of Radcliff, KY, and Robin Strange of Lubbock; grandchildren: Nick Pharr, Rachel Cooper (Travis), Phillip Brown, Erin Hardin (Aaron), Matthew Caton and Daniel Cain; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Southcrest Baptist Church on South Loop 289. The family will receive guests for a visitation/viewing at 12:30 p.m..
