He left behind a legacy of hard work, love, and devotion to his family and community. Thomas was raised in Fort Worth, Texas where he attended Northside High School, graduating in 1956. As a gifted athlete, he earned a football scholarship to Tarleton State University, and later enrolled at TCU where he received his Ranch Management Degree.

Connie and Thomas moved to Lubbock, where he owned and operated McMillian Trucking Co Incorporated, demonstrating the same determination and work ethic that defined his life. He was an avid pilot, and flying became his favorite hobby. He spent countless hours in the sky, finding peace among the clouds. A man of strong faith, Thomas was a charter member of Oakwood Baptist Church, and more recently a member of Southcrest Baptist Church. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and interactions with others.
