Rodney Rodriguez, 53, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013 in Lubbock. He was born September 20, 1960 to Ezequiel and Alice Rodriguez in San Diego, CA. He graduated from Floydada High School. He married Blanca Balderas in 1981 then Tammy Bridges in 2008.
Rodney was in law enforcement all his life, first with the Sheriff’s Department and later as an investigator with the D.A’s office. Rodney ended his career as a Sergant at the Sheriffs Department He was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the Texas Violent Gang Task Force for which he was also the Training Coordinator; he was also the Training Coordinator for TGIA (Texas Gang Investigators Assoc). He was a member of the CGIA ( California Gang Investigators Assoc.), on the Board for Womens Protective Services for several years, a Firearms Instructor, a Negotiator and a Master Peace Officer. He was selected to play Taps in Washington DC for National Police Week. Rodney was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor and friend.
He is survived by his wife Tammy; daughters, Chelsea Garza and husband Chris, Melissa Rodriguez, Kirsten Rodriguez (mother - Blanca Rodriguez), Jazmine Rodriguez, and Lily Rodriguez (mother - Tammy Rodriguez); grandchildren, Ayden Wende, Bryson Garza and Autumn Garza; sister, Karen Weston; brother, Glen Rodriguez; father, Ezequiel Rodriguez; grandmother, Lydia Rodriguez; Angie Gonzalez, step-mother; ex-wife, Blanca Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandfather and brother, Anthony.
Visitation will be Wednesday October 16, 2013 from 5 to 8 pm in Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 17 at 10 am in Trinity Church with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
