He married the love of his life, Virginia, on November 1, 1942 in Muleshoe, Texas and enjoyed 72 years of marriage. At the beginning of their marriage, R.C was called into the U.S. Marine Corp to fight in World War II. After training, he was sent to Iwo Jima. He was on the island for 33 days of the 36 days it took to secure the island. He was wounded and sent to Guam and then to Occupied Japan. While on the island of Iwo Jima, he had the privilege of providing cover for the Flag-Raisers as they raised the flag. After the war, R.C. and Virginia moved to Plainview, Texas in 1948 and raised their family. R.C. was very dedicated to serving others and touched many lives.
After his military service, he worked at Maggard-Nall Motor for 37 years. He did not retire; he became a real estate investor. In all of his work, his heart was dedicated to helping others through doing what was right. He was committed to serving The Lord through his church and caring for those who were hurting.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, his parents, Robert and Evelyn, and his sisters, Helen and Bernice Sneed. He is survived by his children, Rosemary and Tom Brown, Judy and Robin Isbell, Richard and Carolyn Hyde and Vickie and Weldon Hobbs. He was dearly loved by his 14 grandchildren and his 26 great-grandchildren.
R.C. leaves a legacy for his family, church and community and he will be dearly missed.
