Richard Earl Baugh

Richard Baugh (83) passed away on March 28, 2024, following a lengthy battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. A graveside service will be held at Resthaven Cemetery on Saturday, April 20, at 10 am, followed by a memorial service in the Abbey Chapel at 11 a.m. All who were blessed to have known him are invited to attend.

Richard was born August 25, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Forrest and Mildred Baugh. He graduated from Cass Technical High School in 1959 and enlisted in the Army that summer. He met his first wife, Jane, on base in Leavenworth, Kansas, and they married in April 1960. While in the Army, he completed U.S. Medical School as a Preventive Medicine Specialist.

Following discharge, Rich and Jane moved to Detroit, Michigan, with their firstborn, Tim. There, Rich worked as a medical lab technician at Grace Hospital. They spent 14 years in Michigan, adding Terry, Kathy, and Jodi to the family. In 1975, Rich had the opportunity to move to Lubbock, Texas, and became the director of the medical lab at West Texas Hospital. He later became a partner and co-owner of Southwest Clinical Laboratories. After a long career directing the lab, he retired in 1999.

Throughout his life, Rich was passionate about cars, including racing and car shows, and owned several classic cars. While in Detroit, he was an active Drag Ons car club member and participated in drag racing. In Lubbock, he was a member of the Hub City Cruzers and participated in numerous car events. Richard loved NASCAR and was a fan of any driver on the Roush team and against anyone driving anything but a Ford. He enjoyed watching the races every week during the season and attended many in person. He also enjoyed hunting and gun collecting, was a proud and active grandparent, and had a strong belief in Jesus Christ. Throughout his life, he was always generous with his loved ones, often surprising them with gifts.

He moved to Georgetown, Texas, where he and Mary Robsion were married in 2003. There, they enjoyed raising their dogs - 14, over the years, including two rescues. Rich continued his interest in cars, joining the Georgetown Car Club and participating in cruises and charity events with the club.

He leaves behind many who will cherish his memory, including his wife, Mary Baugh and first wife, Jane Baugh; children: Tim Baugh and wife Gina; Terry Baugh and wife Tracy; Kathy Praznik and husband Jack; Jodi Franklin and husband Dean; Jessica Cain and husband Curt. Grandchildren: Chelsie Timmins and husband Jeff; Levi Praznik; Dallas Moore and husband Dillon; Brian Baugh; Natalie Silver and husband Jackson; Christy Baugh and fiancé Werner; Nash Praznik; Savannah Franklin; Colby Franklin; Jared Franklin; Ella Cain and Wesley Cain; 2 great-granddaughters and an expected great-grandson due May 2024. And many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Diane Baugh, and granddaughter Julia Baugh.
