Patsy Jo Chapman went home to Heaven, Sunday, May 14th, 2023. She was born January 6, 1937 in Abernathy, TX to Joe and Ruby (Mauldin) Thompson. She attended grades 1-12 in Abernathy, graduating in 1955. She married the man of her dreams, Artel Chapman November 23, 1956 and after his graduation from Texas Tech, they moved to Portales, NM, where their only child, Michelle Chapman Ratcliff was born, moving to Clovis, NM shortly after.
Pat was an avid reader her entire life, she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, and loved playing card games as many times a week as she could. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting for many years and every friend and family member received and afghan from her for wedding and baby gifts. After Artel’s retirement they loved to jump in the motorhome and go all over: Alaska, Florida, New England, Louisiana, and Las Vegas, being one of her favorite places because she loved to do a little gambling now and then! When he passed, she continued to travel, visiting classmates, going on cruises with her cousin Helen and going to all family reunions. Pat loved her family more than anything and adored her three grandchildren. In the last few years one of the most favorite was going out to eat, usually with family and she was willing to try any restaurant!
She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Pat leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Bill Ratcliff, her grandchildren, Stephen Ratcliff of San Francisco, CA, Kali Ratcliff Carrillo and her husband Isaiah Carrillo of Lubbock and her granddaughter Angali Ratcliff of Wolfforth, TX. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Dick Phillips, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ruby Thompson of Abernathy, TX, her husband of 46 years, Artel Chapman, and her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Cheryl Thompson of Lubbock, TX.
