Ozella Deleslene Hagar was born on December 10, 1923 to Abner & Virgie Reid in Temple, Texas. She graduated from Temple High School with honors and after graduation attended Temple Junior College where she graduated with an Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts. After Junior College, Ozella attended King's Daughter's School of Professional Nursing in Temple, Texas and finished post graduate nursing studies at Chicago Lying-In Hospital in Chicago, Illinois earning her RN certification. After internships in both King's Daughter's Hospital and Scott & White Hospital in Temple, she felt the call to pursue missions work and went to Bible College at Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie, Texas.
After Bible College, she met Ruby Johnson, who had felt the call to become a missionary nurse in Africa. Ozella joined Ruby as a nurse in Saboba, Northern Territories of the Gold Coast, West Africa for 2 years. Upon returning home, she met Ivan Vernon Hagar and married on March of 1960. Vernon Hagar also had a call to be a missionary and together they itinerated in the West Texas Area and went back to Africa where she worked again as a nurse and missionary at the New Hope Leprosy Mission in Liberia, West Africa.
Upon returning home, she worked as a Pastor's wife and nurse from 1964 to 1997 when she retired from nursing professionally to take care of her husband. At that point she had worked as a career nurse for 53 years.
Ozella attended First Assembly of God in Lubbock, Texas where she is a member and Living Word Church, also in Lubbock, Texas.
She is survived by her son, Philip Hagar of Idalou, Texas, an honorary son, Mark Sharp of Oklahoma and an honorary daughter, Denise Guillory of Lubbock.
She is also survived by a step daughter, Yvonne Adams of Phoenix, Arizona.
A Loving Mother, Missionary, Preacher’s Wife and Nurse; she graduated from this life to her home in heaven on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2017 at First Assembly of God, 3801 98th Street, Lubbock, Texas.
Graveside Service will be at 3:30 p.m. at Girard Cemetery in Girard, Texas.
