Marie McGee Webb

She was born May 29, 1927 in Hollis, Oklahoma to the late Harvey and Bertie (Cozby) McGee. In February 1938 they moved from Hollis to Lubbock, Texas.

At the age of 17, in her last semester of high school, she withdrew from school to marry the love of her life, H.E. Webb, Jr. on March 3, 1945. Alone, as a young country girl she took the train from Lubbock to California to reside with H.E. while he served his country in the U.S. Naval SEABEES. Upon discharge they returned to Lubbock and lived out their lives until his passing 2002. In 1969 she attended the Lubbock Evening High School, established by Lubbock High as a diploma evening school. She proudly graduated on June 2, 1970.

She was an avid artist, loved gardening, quilting, reading, and in her early years enjoyed bowling and square dancing.

She generously loved her Lord and Savior, Church, family and friends. To know her was to love her, as her gracious personality existed through all times.

She was a Charter member of Highland Baptist Church, worked and travelled with Campers on Missions, retired from Dr. Pepper and Coca-Cola Bottling Company, and became a member of the Covenant Children’s Hospital Auxiliary for 12 years after retirement.

Marie was preceded in death by H.E. Webb, Jr. (spouse), Katrina Ann Webb (granddaughter), Chad Jerome Webb (grandson), Stevens Jerome Webb, (son), John Harvey McGee (father), Bertie Belle (Cozby) McGee (mother), four brothers, M.C. “Brother”, Garland, Jimmie John, and Charles and two sisters, Clearcie “Sister”, and Imogene.

Left to cherish her memories are Jimmy Dan Webb (son), Dorothy Russell (sister), and daughter-in-law Dianne (married to the late Stevens Jerome Webb), 2 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren, known as “Aunt Rhea” to the multitude of nieces and nephews, and “GiGi” to numerous Great and Great-Great nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Marie will be held Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas. A celebration of life memorial service will occur Monday, April 3, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Highland Baptist Church, 4316 34th St., Lubbock, Texas with Dr. Adam Pardue officicating. A graveside service will occur Monday, April 3, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Resthaven Memorial Park, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers are Dean Graham, Jonathan Hill, Jackie McGaugh, Dwayne Nicholson, Jacob Reep, Mike Reep and Brittney Webb.
