Margaret “Tyler” Dennis of Shallowater, Texas, passed away in her home on Sunday, December 19, 2021 surrounded by her family after a 22-year hard-fought battle with several cancers. Services will be at Resthaven Chapel on Monday, December 27, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Michael J. Elliott officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, December 26 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Resthaven.
Tyler was born on July 4, 1948, in Charleston, West Virginia to Dr. John S. Boling and Van Pruett Boling. Tyler was extremely proud of the fact that her father, Dr. Boling, was the first permanent anesthesiologist in Lubbock, moving his family out west in 1956 to work at Methodist Hospital. Tyler was the older sister of her twin siblings, Susan Boling Stirman and John L. Boling.
After graduating from Monterey High School, she followed her father into healthcare, Tyler enrolled in Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa to start her nursing education. She also attended Lubbock Christian College and graduated with her bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Tech in Beckley, WV.
On July 11, 1970, she married Don K. Dennis in Lubbock. Tyler was director of the Well Baby Clinic in Lubbock until she had her first child. Don, Tyler, and Susie moved to West Virginia to help in her dad’s drug store in Grantsville. Tyler worked in home health, serving patients in very remote areas of West Virginia.
Tyler was always interested in being a missionary, but her mission field quickly became the school systems in which she worked. She taught medical and nursing assistants for the Calhoun/Gilmer Career Center in West Virginia. After moving back to Texas, she taught medical and nursing assistants and was a school nurse from 1994 to 2018 in Shallowater, retiring as the nursing supervisor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Susan Boling Stirman, and nephew, Remington Lane Stirman.
She is survived by her husband of the family home. She and Don were the proud parents of Susie Dennis Parker and husband Danny of Artesia, NM, and John T. Dennis of Lubbock. She later fulfilled one of her most important dreams in life when she became a Grammy TyTy to Madison Parker and Jackson Parker, both of Artesia. Her brother, John Boling and wife Susan of Lubbock, sister-in-law Dorene Dennis DuLaney and husband, Jack, of Shallowater also survive her. She was a beloved Aunt Tyler to many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are John L. Boling, Jackson Parker, Mark Stone, Justin Stone, John Alex Boling, Glen Kersey, John William Dennis and Phil Warren. Honorary pallbearers are Jack DuLaney, Aaron Campbell, Mike Parker, and Ron Blankenship.
