He was born on September 2, 1932 in Peru, Iowa to Ollie Haines and Edith Graves Haines.
He attended a one room school house through the 8th grade. Students were then sent to the nearby town of Winterset to complete their education. He enjoyed staying in touch with his fellow classmates throughout the rest of his life.
He joined the Air Force in November 1951 and served for 4 years. The majority of that time was spent at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, NM. While stationed in Roswell, he met and married Norma Patton on September 5, 1954. They had 3 children together. Susan Haines Bailey of Lubbock, TX, Gary Haines of Runnells, IA, and Tommy (Tom) Haines of Lubbock, TX. Upon leaving the Air Force he returned to Truro, IA where he owned and operated his own feed grinding business.
He eventually transferred to Lovington, NM in 1975 with the Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America and retired from the company in December 1987.
His first wife, Norma, preceded him in death on July 12, 1986. He married Tommie Ruth Maryfield on October 8, 1988 in Lubbock, Tx. His 2nd wife, Tommie Ruth, preceded him in death on February 19, 2011.
He was a member of the Greenlawn Church of Christ. He was active in the Healing Hearts Class and the THEOS organization. Survivors include his daughter Susan, sons Gary and Tom, Step-son Marlowe Bentley, along with 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2021, from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Resthaven Funeral Home Abbey Chapel. The Celebration of Life service will follow beginning at 2:00PM. Graveside service will be Thursday, April 1, 2021 at 11:00AM at Lovington Cemetery in Lovington, New Mexico.
