Lona entered the work force at a very young age. She worked for the hospital at Spur as a teenager, cooking and cleaning. Later she worked as the Secretary for the Dickens Superintendent of Schools, Robert Williams. She held that position for numerous years. She then worked as a secretary for two county judges, where she retired.
The high point of her life was when she met Virgil Rogers and they became life-long soulmates from December 28, 1958 until his death, October 25, 2014.
Lona Dell and Virgil were charter members of Quaker Avenue Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Hunera Pritchett; father E.V. Arthur; and mother Lessie Arthur.
The family will gather to receive friends on Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 12:30p.m. at Quaker Avenue Church of Christ. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
