LARRY was born in PEORIA, IL., to MAURICE “MORRIS” AND GLADYS SAX on a TUESDAY, MARCH 24TH, 1942. He went to high school at PEORIA CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL and graduated in 1961. He went on to earn a degree and certificate in MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY from THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO. He worked as a CLINICAL LABORATORY SUPERVISOR for WORTH COUNTY HOSPITAL IN SYLVESTER, GA., MITCHELL COUNTY HOSPITAL IN CAMILLA, GA., AND AT UNM HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF TROPICAL AND GEO. MED. for OVER 10 YEARS DEDICATING HIS TIME AND RESEARCH TO THE STUDY OF MALARIA.
LARRY’S LIFE AND LIFE’S JOURNIES WOULD EVENTUALLY LEAD HIM FROM THE DESERTS OF NEW MEXICO TO THE PLAINS OF WEST TEXAS. HE MOVED TO LUBBOCK WITH HIS FAMILY IN THE EARLY 1980’s TO PURSUE HIS DREAM OF BEING SELF EMPLOYED AND OWNING SEVERAL SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSES. AT THE END OF LARRY’S FULL TIME CAREER HE RETIRED FROM THE CITY OF LUBBOCK FROM THE WATER UTILITIES DEPARTMENT WHERE HE WORKED SEVERAL YEARS AS A LEAD PLANT OPERATOR & FOREMAN AT THE WASTE WATER RECLAMATION PLANT.
LARRY HAD SEVERAL HOBBIES AND INTERESTS…FIRST AND FOREMOST, he enjoyed SPENDING QUALITY TIME WITH HIS FAMILY AND HIS BELOVED PETS – TINKER BELL AND PEPPER ANN. LARRY ALSO ENJOYED TRAVELING AND HOLDING GUN SHOWS, COLLECTING MANY DIFFERENT ANTIQUES AND HISTORICAL MEMORABILIA, JOKING WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS ABOUT POLITICAL VIEWS ON SOCIAL MEDIA, COLLECTING ARTWORKS, CLOCK WORKING AND HAD A GREAT LOVE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY.
He was involved in CULTIVATION, DRUG SENSITIVITY AND MALARIA AND VACCINE RESEARCH BY DEVELOPMENT OF ANIMAL MODELS FOR MALARIA AND HIS WORK WITH MALARIA IS IN FACT PUBLISHED.
LARRY JON SAX is survived by his BELOVED WIFE OF ALMOST 20 YEARS, GLADYS E. SAX of LUBBOCK, TEXAS. One Son and One Step Son: David S.Sax, 37, and John Hill, 40. One Daughter and One Step Daughter: Michelle A. Chavez, 47, and Amber Hill, 30. One younger Brother: Gerald Sax, 75 and One younger Sister: Marilyn Lahman, 73. Four Grandsons and One Step Grandson: Isaac Chavez-Ward, Chaim Sax, Russell Sax, Jayden Sax, and Elijah Trevino. One Granddaughter and One Step Granddaughter: Valorie Chavez-Ward, and Eliza Trevino. Three Nephews: Brandon Lahman, Jordan Sax, and John Sax. He is preceded in death by his FATHER MAURICE G. SAX and MOTHER GLADYS SAX, AND STEP-DAUGHTER KIMBERLY SAX.
SERVICE WILL BEGIN ON MONDAY, DECEMBER THE 23RD, 2019 AT 2:00 PM IN RESTHAVEN’S ABBEY CHAPEL.
Burial will follow at RESTHAVEN CEMETERY AT REMEMBRANCE GARDENS.
