Jonathon Hay Phillips, 36, of Lubbock, passed away on January 31, 2022. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky on June 24, 1985 to Mary and Gerard Phillips. Jonathon graduated from Idalou High School in 2004 before enlisting in the United States Navy. He began as an aircraft mechanic and was promoted to Navy plane captain for the EA-6B Prowler Aircraft. He served on the USS Ronald Reagan Aircraft Carrier CVN-76. He was honored to have his name and hometown put on the aircraft he worked on. Jon loved his time in service and was a proud Veteran.
Jon loved his family, friends, God, and his country. He had a passion for watching movies and listening to music. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan who believed every year was their year to go back to the Superbowl. He shared a love for Kentucky Wildcats basketball with his mom and brother. He adored his two Frenchies, Randy and Stella. Jon was the sweetest and kindest son, brother, uncle, and friend. Jon always had a huge smile on his face. He was a friend to all and would have given his last dime to make sure his friends and family were taken care of, even if that was a stranger on the street. He was the most genuine person and was known for not having a filter and telling you exactly what was on his mind.
He is preceded in death by his papa, Douglas Myers; his dad, Gerard Phillips III, his grandpa Gerard Phillips Jr., and his grandma Janet Phillips. Those left to cherish his memory are his mom and stepfather, Mary and Greg Gilmore; his brother, Tyler (Amanda) Phillips; his sister, Rebecca Garcia; stepsisters Fiona and Samantha; and his Granny, Dorothy Myers. He loved being Uncle Jon Jon to his nephews, Shawn, Zane, Tyson, Elijah, Tucker, and his niece Emily. He is also survived by his loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, Jon would have loved donations be made to the local homeless shelter.
