John E. Hood, Jr.

A second memorial service with military honors will be held at 5:00p.m. on Wednesday, September 18 in the Veterans Park in Arlington, TX.

John Ervin Hood, Jr. was born on August 15, 1924 in Atoka, OK to John E. Hood, Sr. and Sally Joanna (Jarnagin) Hood. John began working for the Ben E. Keith Company prior to WWII. While he was working at Ben E. Keith the war broke out and John left to join the Navy. He was stationed aboard the USS North Carolina. He was honorably discharged in April 1946 as a Seaman 1st Class. John returned to Ben E. Keith and was there 4 years when he was drafted back to the Navy in October 1950 because of the Korean War. John was honorably discharged in February 1952. He received several medals for his service in WWII and Korea.

After returning from Korea, he moved to Big Springs, TX where he was employed as a delivery driver with Rainbo Bakery for 23 years. He married Rosie Maude Hood in 1964; she preceded him in death in 1999. After her death, John moved to Lubbock to live with his three sisters, Ozella Womack, Virginia West, and Dorothy Henderson.

John’s favorite pastimes included watching his favorite wrestlers, Jesse Ventura and Hulk Hogan; cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers, and country and western dancing. Most of all, John enjoyed making friends with anyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his 3 sisters. Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Dwight C. Hood and wife Sandra of Arlington; grandson, Brian N. Hood of Wilmington, NC; brother, Wayne Hood of Arlington; 6 nephews; 5 nieces; and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any group assisting the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
