Janette Claire Shields was born on January 17, 1935 in Houston, TX, to Earl and Clara Shields. She grew up in Houston, and graduated from Incarnate Word Academy. She married William J. Bacon on November 13, 1954 in Houston. Throughout their 57 years of marriage, they lived in Houston, California and settled in Lubbock in the early 1960s. Jan dedicated her life to raising her 5 children, and found time to devote to her passion for bowling, writing and photography. Along with their love of bowling, Bill and Jan enjoyed a large network of friends who remained close to them throughout their lives. Bill preceded Jan in death in 2012.
Jan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Guy Parker; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Patty Bacon; daughter Cindy White, son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Tracy Bacon; and daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Michael Canale; grandchildren: Shea and Jenny Parker, Shane and Shelly Parker, Ashley Parker, Cameron Allison, William Bacon, Matthew Bacon, Cole and Samantha White, Danielle White, Joel White, Ben and Annie Bacon, Emily Bacon, Lauren Canale and Candice Canale; 10 great-grandchildren; her twin sister, Annette Shields and her younger sister, Marjorie Shields; sister-in-law Juanita Robinson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Delores and Jay Bopp and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, July 27, 2017 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. at Christ the King Cathedral. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Wilshire on 4th Retirement Home, Accolade Home Care and Hospice and Hospice of Lubbock.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
