James P. Moss passed away August 2, 2014. Visitation will be Monday evening at Resthaven Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Services will be performed by Dr. Keith Wiseman and Rev. Josh Stephens at Resthaven Chapel Tuesday, August 5th at 1 p.m. with interment to follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum.
James was born in Dallas, TX October 31, 1923 to Ennis Edward and Gladys Moss. The family moved to Roaring Springs in 1924 where he spent his childhood years. Later, they moved to Lubbock and he graduated from Lubbock High. He served his country during WWII in the Pacific aboard the U.S.S Battleship New Jersey from 1943 to 1946. Upon returning, he married Frances Schweitzer on August 25, 1946. James was instrumental in the cotton industry working with his late father and late brother, Holye, to develop the revolutionary Moss Lint Cleaner invented by his father. He enjoyed the family ranch located in Motley and Dickens Counties, traveling, golf and mostly being with his family. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
James is survived by his wife, Frances; sons, Randy (Marnell) and Ricky; grandchildren Keri and David, and Johnny (Allison) Moss and their three children Max, Mason and Mylie; his brother Dr. Ennis Moss Jr., sister-in-law Boots Moss and many other relatives and friends.
