Gilbert Portillo Bela Sr. entered into eternal rest on January 4, 2022 at the age of 81. Born in Cameron, TX to the late Ysmael and Maria Bela on July 3, 1940; he also reunites with his brother Jesse Bela and sister Julia Sanchez.
Gilbert graduated from Lubbock Estacado in 1972. He was employed with Texas Instruments for over 23 years until his retirement. He also worked for American National as an Insurance agent, and was a drummer for a Tejano band for over 40 years.
He was a faithful member to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church where he served as a Eucharist minister and a cursillista.
His pride and joy was his family, he loved spending time and leaves behind many memories for them to cherish.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of over 41 years, Natalia Bela; his children: Eddie J. Bela (Patricia) of Lubbock, Gilbert Z. Bela Jr (Emily) of Abilene, Joe L. Bela (Kasondra) of Amarillo; grandchildren: Eric Gonzales, Heather Gonzales, Caitlin Bela, Noah Bela, Anaya Bela, Joaquin Bela, Julian Bela; siblings: Ismael Bela, Mary Juarez, Janie Torres; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives .
The family will receive guests on Monday, January 17, 2022 from 5pm-8pm with a Rosary at 7pm. Services will continue on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Our Lady Guadalupe Catholic Church with a 10am Funeral Mass. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
