Our beloved dad and granddad, George T. Hughes Jr. 93, of Lubbock, left his earthly home on Friday, March of 2017. He was born on March 24, 1924 in Ringgold, Texas to the late George T. and Marguerite Evenella (Jordan) Hughes. He married Jean (Gregston) on January 24, 1948 in Ryan, Oklahoma.
George proudly served his county in the United States Coast Guard during WWII. He began his life long career with Mobil Oil and retired as a Production Supervisor II after 39 ½ years.
George and Jean spent retirement years traveling, golfing and enjoying the campsites of Cloudcroft, New Mexico. George had a love for his church and volunteered faithfully.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jean, of 69 years, one Son, Larry T. Hughes (Gail) of Pleasanton, Texas, one Daughter, Jan Hughes of Lubbock, and one Sister Avis Kirkendall (Phil) of Crosbyton. He was also blessed with four Grandchildren, Melissa Bowen (Denney) of Pleasanton, Allison Kerin (Patrick) of Lubbock, Christina Hurley (Patrick) of Pleasanton, Amber Thieme (Brian) of Lubbock, and six Great Grandchildren, Jodie and Gregston Hurley, Kohle and Kason Kerin, and Brynlee and Brylee Thieme.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Madge Stephenson of Comanche, Oklahoma, Marguerite Green of Waco, Texas and Maggie Mitchell of Hobbs, New Mexico and one Brother Charles Arthur Hughes of Lyons, Kansas.
