Donato was born in Roma, Texas to the late Donaciano and Guadalupe Maria Cavazos on January 17, 1957. He was raised with three siblings, two brothers, Daniel and Donaciano Jr., and a sister, Dora. At the age of 23 Donato met the love of his life, Dolores Ojeda in Levelland, Texas. They married on June 16, 1979 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Carlisle (Lubbock), Texas. During the duration of their 38 years of marriage, Donato and Dolores were gifted with two children, Maria and Gabriel.
He was a loving, hardworking husband and father. Donato held a 34 year career as a Driller in the Oilfield industry having worked for Sitton Drilling and Nabors Drilling. He was committed to giving his family a life fulfilled with religion, love, respect and comfort until his retirement in 2015.
Donato was a devoted catholic. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Levelland, TX for 35 years and a member of Our Lady of Grace for the last year.
Donato was a car fanatic. His hobby was to be underneath the hood of any car whether it needed repairs or just for entertainment. You could almost always find him watching his favorite cars shows such as Gas Monkey, Fast N Loud, Overhaulin’, Counting Cars and Street Outlaws. The hobby that was closest to his heart was being able to watch his grandchildren play sports. There was no weather cold or hot enough to keep him from watching, supporting and smiling at every game. Spending time with his family and friends was important to Donato and he made every moment count!
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dolores Cavazos; children: Maria Martinez and husband, Jesus (Bug), and Gabriel Cavazos and wife, Alisha; grandchildren: Jesus III, Xavier, Jayson, Jordan and Jakob Martinez; Siblings: Daniel Cavazos and wife, Esperanza, and Dora Cavazos; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends he considered family.
Those who knew Donato will always remember the genuine, honest, friendly and giving man that he was. One word will forever hold a place in our hearts – “Chhh”.
