Don Lagene Hargis

Don was born December 19, 1930 in Altus, Oklahoma to James (Deb) Hargis and Cora (Toot) Ethel Haley. He graduated from Bonham High School in 1948 and married Nora Sue Nash in Lubbock, on September 25, 1952.

Don worked in the grocery business and drove a truck all his adult life. Don was a Methodist by faith, and a long time member of Aldersgate Church, in Lubbock.

Don was a devoted husband, father and Pappaw. He loved hunting and fishing with his brothers, sons- in-law, and grandchildren, & was a devoted Texas Longhorn fan. He also loved gardening, raising vegetables and working the Apple Orchard Farmer’s Market for several years after retiring from SunFreightWays trucking company in 1996. He and Sue loved traveling with their lifelong friends, Bo and Helen Minnis, of Lubbock. Don loved watching baseball, college football, Little League World Series, Women’s College Softball, Gunsmoke, & was fiercely competitive in any game, especially Wahoo with family.

Don was preceded in death by both his parents, Deb and Cora Hargis, brothers, Norman and James Hargis; sisters, Billie Joe Eldridge, Lesta Mae Prater, and Bobbie Jack Rhea; son, Gary Gene Hargis (stillborn), grandson, Dusty Don Stanford, & son-in-law, Jack Emery.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Nora Sue Hargis of 70 years; his 4 daughters, Elaine Emery, of Lubbock, Rhonda Cox (Dan) of Allen, Texas, Gail Stanford of Lubbock, and Lynda Railey of Lubbock. Grandchildren, Justin (Allison) Cox of Fairview, TX, Jason Emery (Julie) of Midland,

TX, Amanda Sanderson of Quinlan, TX, Brandi (Jacob) Wright, of Lubbock, Davy Stanford, of Lubbock, Stephanie Railey of Lubbock, Nicci Roberts of Allen, TX, Cory Railey (Hayley) of Lubbock.

Great-grandchildren: Alyssa DeForrest, Taylar and Tyler Cox, Andrew Linville, Ella & Rubie Roberts, Kyler and Gracie Emery, Ridley and Rally Wright, Rebekah Richards, Colton Railey, Riley Thomas, Emmalyn and Madisyn Railey.

Services will begin with a visitation on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 6pm-8pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2pm on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 in the Abbey Chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow.

We are grateful for all the love and support from family, friends, nurses and staff from Direct Home Care Hospice and Home Instead.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Aldersgate Church of Lubbock, Texas.
