

A service to honor the life of Denece Harris will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, October 14, 2022, in the Bowman Chapel of First United Methodist Church of Lubbock. A private family burial will be held at a later time under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Denece was born July 26, 1931, in Hale Center, Texas, to Dennis and Margaret Scaling.
Denece graduated from Hale Center High School and attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority at SMU in Dallas and is where she met the love of her life, W.B. “Dub” Harris of Morganfield, Kentucky. They were married on August 24, 1949 at the Lover’s Lane Methodist Church in Dallas. Denese and Dub were married for 74 years until Dub’s death in January 2021.
Dub and Denece moved to Lubbock in 1950 where Dub completed his degree in Business Administration from Texas Tech. Denece’s husband’s job took the family to Baltimore, Maryland; Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Jacksonville, Florida and then to Chicago, Illinois. In 1964 the family returned to Lubbock, Texas.
Denece was very active in the Lubbock Community as a member of the Junior League of Lubbock, as President of the Women’s Division of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and was active in the Bridal ministry at her church, First United Methodist of Lubbock.
Denece is survived by daughter Kitty and her husband Morris; and daughter Linn and her husband David; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dub Harris, her parents, and a sister, Mary Kate Cooper of Dallas.
She was a lifelong Methodist and a long-time member of Lubbock First United Methodist Church.
