Ruth S. Martin passed away August 28,2024 at the age of 99. She was born on May 8, 1925 to Albert and Ethel Shirling in Kansas City, Missouri. Estes Park was her second home growing up as she spent every summer in Estes Park while her father taught nature studies and hiking through the Greeley Teachers College in Estes Park.
Ruth was a gifted artist with watercolors and oils her main medium. She expressed her artistic skills in every aspect of her life.
Ruth married Norman L Martin on January 29, 1945. She and Norman were married 65 years before his passing in 2010. She was a devoted and loving mother to their two children, David and Sally.
Upon moving to Estes Park in 1972 from Kansas City, Norman and Ruth were involved in square dancing with friends, hunting rocks with Dick Siebenaler, fishing, hiking, golfing and tennis.
In 1975 they started spending the winters in Mesa, AZ. There Ruth joined the Road Runner Prospecting Club. She loved the hunt for that elusive gold. Norman said she never found enough gold to pay for the donuts they ate on the trip.
Ruth is survived by her two children, David (Linda) Martin and Sally (Bruce) Johnston, four grandchildren, Cheryl (Trace) Klingensmith, Danielle (Rich) Carroll, Rebecca (Jason) Baumeister and Jeffrey (Jeffrey) Johnston and 9 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Faith Evangelical Church in Loveland, CO on September 28, 2024 at 11:00am.
