Marilyn Jean Miller

Marilyn was born in Lincoln, NE to Lester and Ellen (Taler) Meyers. Four years later, her brother Lester “Butch” was born, rounding out the family. She grew up in a multi- generational household and had many stories of her childhood, from her dad’s time in the Merchant Marines during World War II, to her mom making sandwiches for any who came their way hungry. Marilyn had an especially fond spot in her heart for her paternal grandmother, and credits her with her own coffee-drinking beginnings!

Marilyn missed her grandmother the most when the family moved to Brighton, CO in 1947. There, her dad – a baker by profession – and mom, opened Ellen’s Pastry Shop, which was a treasured part of the Brighton community for over 50 years. She worked in the bakery until she graduated from Brighton High School in 1950. She then attended Barnes School of Commerce, in Denver.

Marilyn met Charles “Chuck/Charlie“ (depending on where you knew him from!) in 1954, and they were married in May of that year. Chuck’s first career in the Air Force took them to many locations stateside and abroad to Germany. They eventually settled in Loveland, CO in 1970, where Marilyn enjoyed a 23-year career in the business office at McKee Medical Center.

Marilyn was a loving mother to her daughters, Deborah “Debbie”; Teresa “Terri”; and Elizabeth “Liz.” She was also a devoted “mama dog“ to the many dogs who were lucky enough to be under her care. Many people in her neighborhood became friends whom she met and visited with on her twice daily walks with her dogs.

Marilyn’s church home, Zion Lutheran Church, was always a source of spiritual foundation and growth; a place with many friends; a place where she volunteered weekly in many capacities; and a place with supportive fellowship for almost 50 years.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her father, Lester (1999); her mother, Ellen (2003); her brother, Butch (2007); her daughter, Debbie DeGolier (2014); and her husband, Chuck (2018), as well as numerous dogs who crossed the Rainbow Bridge and have been wagging and waiting to see her again. She is survived by daughters Terri Walter, and Liz Kochis (Marc); son-in-law Steve DeGolier; granddaughters Beka White (Sid), and Emily DeGolier Artz (Ben); and great-grandchildren, Mac and Rachel.
