James Wesley “Jim” Proctor, 87, passed away Monday, April 20, 2020. Born in Romero, Texas, he was a son of the late John Sheldon Proctor and Lorene Kelly Proctor. Jim attended public school in Adrian, Texas. After high school graduation, Jim worked as a seasonal cattle driver for the Matador Ranch until serving his country in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a corporal from the U.S. Army. Jim then went on to Amarillo College, playing basketball for the Badgers and receiving his associate’s degree. It was here that he met his wife of 61 years, Patricia “Pat” McKee.
After marrying, Jim worked as a parts manager for Beard and Stone in Amarillo. In 1963, the family moved to Guymon, where he started a business. Claycomb Battery and Electric thrived until Jim’s retirement in 1995. He continued working in retirement, building and running a coin operated laundry mat and driving a bus for Guymon Public Schools. Together with his wife, Jim was director of Christian Education at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon for over 10 years.
All of his life, he had a heart for the youth of this country. He served as a scout master for the Boy Scouts of America for many years and was awarded one of the Scout’s highest honors, The Silver Beaver, in 1980.
Surviving are his children, Steve Proctor (Tracy) of Ness City, Kan., Kellie Hudson (Dennis) of Longmont, Colo., Trisha Mendenhall (Quentin) of Johnstown, Colo., Jason Proctor (Amber) of Perry, Okla.; grandchildren, Kaitie and Matt Davis, Josh and Dainele Mendenhall, Megann Hudson, Keelie and Seth Smith, Clayton Proctor, Kelton, Kinsey, Kanon and Karter Proctor; great-granddaughters, Iba and Lilly Smith; and brother, Sheldon Proctor (Dale) of Dalhart, Texas.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Lorene and Y.C. “Red” Garrison; nephews, Johnny Garrison and Mykle McKee; and niece, Dana Proctor.
A private family graveside service with military honors was held in Loveland Burial Park, Loveland, Colorado. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.allnuttloveland.com.
