Ray and Lula May Newmyer just before the stock market crash and the beginning of the
Great Depression. He was the youngest, by far, of six children who survived to adulthood.
Earl attended several small schools, starting as one of three first-graders in a one-room
rural school. The teacher was a dedicated 18-year-old who had just had one summer at
teachers’ college. Earl gave her much credit for his subsequent academic success. Moving
from school to school was disruptive, but Earl later realized he benefited from a diverse
education that he would not have received had he stayed in any one place.
Earl graduated from high school in 1947 and enrolled at the University of Colorado in
Boulder. He received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering in 1954. After college, he took
a job with a manufacturer of specialty electrical equipment in Ogallala, Nebraska,
designing products and doing sales engineering.
Earl and Jo Ann Anderson were married on September 11, 1955 in St. Francis, Kansas
following her graduation from CU Boulder with a degree in Music Education.
In 1958, Earl started with the Martin Company in Denver, working on component selection
and quality control for the Titan ICBM. In 1960, he went with the Lawrence Radiation Lab
(now Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory), a nuclear research facility managed by the
University of California, working on components, standards, quality and reliability and on
events at the Nevada Test Site.
In 1970, he was accepted into the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University and
received an MBA in 1972. The family returned to Denver, where Earl became Assistant to
the President of an automotive electrical equipment manufacturer.
In 1976, he began doing private management consulting for small businesses in Colorado.
In 1984, he joined a group at CU Boulder that provided general-management consulting
and engineering services to clients in seven states. He retired in 1997.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; loyal, devoted friend and supportive, loving wife
of 61 years, Jo Ann; eldest son, Brett; brothers Harry, Sr., Joe and George; sisters Ethel
Brennan-Ponik and Lena Garner; nephews James Fullinwider and Harry Newmyer, Jr.; and
nieces Gloria Herring, Connie Smith, Lula Belle Beeman and Myrna Nicander.

Schoenfeld and Alex (Madison) Newmyer; great-grandson Liam Newmyer; nephews Ray and David
Newmyer; nieces Irene (Jerry) Tucker, Ethel Vick, Patty Smith, Judy Clements and Mary
