Stephen Michael Gettelfinger, 79, of Louisville, KY left to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, October 10, 2022.
Stephen (known as Steve, Stevie, Pop, and Poppy) was born March 3, 1943, in New Albany, IN to Paul and Corinne Gettelfinger.
Steve attended North Central High School in Ramsey, IN. He was a great student athlete who excelled in cross country, track, and baseball. Later, he graduated from the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, OH and went on to utilize his incredible skills at The Kroger Company for over 23 years.
Steve enjoyed work of any kind and was never one to sit idle. He was a thoughtful and caring friend and advocate of people and his dogs, Dixie, Bear, and Bart. He had a passion for University of Kentucky Basketball and never wanted to miss a game. Often, he could also be found at the horse track, dog track, or fishing. He enjoyed attending basketball, soccer, and tennis matches of his great-grandchildren. His skills in the kitchen provided the best home-cooked meals to his family for over 40 years from fresh kale, vegetable soup, minute steak and creamed potatoes to his famous Christmas fudge.
He was preceded in death by wife, Sarah Gettelfinger, his father, Paul Gettelfinger, mother, Corinne Gettelfinger, brothers Larry Gettelfinger and James Gettelfinger, sister Paula Craig, and stepdaughter, Linda Holleman.
He is survived by his sisters Marilyn O’Connor, Cathy Sherrod (Randy), and brothers Ron Gettelfinger (Judy), David Gettelfinger (Connie), Brian Gettelfinger, Richard Gettelfinger (Sandy), Louis Gettelfinger, Jerry Gettelfinger (Jane), Stepdaughters Janice Foutch and Melody Swartwood, grandchildren Tiffanye Hawes (David), Tamara Holleman, Brittney Baldwin, Telly Foutch, and Johnna Lyvers, and great-grandchildren Logan Borgelt, Hayden Hawes, Blake Borgelt, Sarah Hawes, Grace Holleman, Emma Holleman, Cam Holleman, Savana Foutch, and great-great grandchild Winston Franklin.
Our hearts are broken; but we wish him lasting peace.
May we keep his spirit alive through our stories and memories.
