Bob is preceded in death by his parents, John Board and Elizabeth Stinnett Preston; stepfather, Clarence “Pop” Preston; wife, Betty Board; brother, Roy J. Board and sons, Anthony “Tony” Nichols and David Board.
Left to cherish Bob’s memory are his children, Mark Board (Tammy), Robin Board (Peggy), and adopted son, John Butler (Kayla); sisters-in-laws and lifelong friends, Inez Board, Peggy Wood, and Jane Hawn; all his beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and adopted grand and great grandchildren.
The family of Bob would like to extend a special “Thank You” to his caregivers, Marcie Henning, Gail Embry, LyDonna Nohelty, and Fay Lucas for their compassion and tender care for Bob. God bless each of you for the wonderful care and service that you provided Dad and the family.
Bob’s mother and brother moved to Louisville where he attended school and participated in numerous sports. He was drafted in 1955, proudly serving in the U.S. Army. Stationed in Germany, Bob served as a tank driver. After returning home from Germany, he worked at General Electric for 14 years, where he would be introduced to his wife of 66 years, Betty Board. After his time at GE, he worked in the trucking industry for various companies, later retiring after 25 years as an in-town truck driver.
As he was raising his three children and stepson, he was an active 60-year member of the Shively-Lewis-Parkland Masonic Lodge; regularly volunteering at fundraisers. His Christian life was always central in his life with Sunday school, playing Church softball, and volunteering to support youth development at Shively Baptist; and, later Cloverleaf Baptist Church. Working two jobs for many years, he hurried from work to cheer on Robin as she played basketball for Butler and the University of Louisville.
Farming, a lifelong passion grew from weekend farming to full time as he moved back to Breckinridge County. He enjoyed all aspects of farming, especially working with his cattle. Robert, as he was called on the farm, could drive anything, fix most things, and was always quick to help anyone in need. His dream of staying on the farm was fulfilled.
He remained an avid fan of University of Louisville Sports, Cowboys Football, Ravens Football, LA Lakers, and country or Gospel music.
Bob’s life and priorities always revolved around family and friends. He always asked about others and delighted in their joys and accomplishments. His genuine love of people; as well as, his positive Christian attitude immersed everyone around him with a feeling of being valued.
His kindness, compassion, and generosity will be missed.
