Nannette was born in Louisville, January 24, 1938 to her parents, Cornelia Robinson Layman Sharp and Everett Richard “Dick” Layman, who both preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Valley High School - Class of 1956, Louisville, Kentucky. She married the love of her life, Chester LeRoy Dailey of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, on April 16, 1956 in Indiana.
Nannette joined Chester to live a life with his career service in the United States Navy for 22 years. The young couple were stationed in seven states including Arizona, Kentucky, Florida, Hawaii, New Mexico, Rhode Island and Tennessee. Together, they provided their children and grandchildren an example of living by Christian faith. Nannette lived a life of a faithful servant and was happiest when she was surrounded by family.
In her young life, Nannette volunteered in Baptist churches and various organizations to support her children’s youth activities in the communities where they lived and were stationed. Once her children started school, Nannette worked in various jobs to help support the family. When returning to live in Louisville after the Navy, Nannette worked with several children preschools in the southwest Louisville community. She served as Director of Aldersgate UMC Preschool as well as working at Cane Run Baptist preschool and Shively Baptist preschool, and at the Southwest YMCA summer program. In later years she and Chester often volunteered at Farnsley Moremen Landing. She passed on her love of cooking, learning and reading to her children, grandchildren and to the children who were under her care.
In addition to husband and parents, Nannette was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Jean Layman Whaley, a brother, Larry Richard “Ricky” Layman, and stepfather, Chester Sharp.
Nannette is survived by her three children, Gary (Patty) Dailey Leavenworth, Indiana, David (Jonell) Dailey, Peaks Mill, Kentucky, and Denise Dailey Wilson, Louisville, Kentucky;
Seven grandchildren - Paul (Brooke) Dailey, Timothy (Micah) Dailey, Jason Dailey (Adam Christian), John (Elizabeth) Dailey, Kate (Bennett) Dailey Heustis, Kacy Wilson, and Madeline (Aaron) Dailey Douglas; and Eight great-grandchildren. Siblings - Kenneth (Margie) Layman, Linda (Don) Albro, and Mike (KB) Layman; all of Louisville, Kentucky; and sister-in-law, Ruth Layman. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm Thursday at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie, with private burial at Bethany Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am until the time of the service Thursday.
