Michael Kevin Murphy

Michael K Murphy, 68, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2023 after battling his cancer diagnosis. Mr. Murphy was born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 19, 1954 to Lillian “Lil” (King) Murphy and the late Joseph Murphy.

He retired from the United States Air Force as an Air Force instructor. After retirement Mr. Murphy was a substitute teacher for the Catholic schools. Many will remember his science courses, especially those cumulating in the launch of a rocket. He was active in the Louisville Astronomical Society and he enjoyed sharing the astonishing views from his telescope.

Left to cherish his memory is his mother, Lillian “Lil” (King) Murphy; children, Mary Beth Welch (Brian) and Michael Murphy Jr. (Anna); grandchildren, Haley, Jonathan, Braelynn, Hannah and Will; brothers, Joe (Linda), Bob (Darcy) and Gary; sisters, Mary Simpson and Carolyn Murphy; along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Arch L Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky, 40218

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 5505 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky with following interment at Resthaven Memorial Park.
