There are people you meet in life that leave a lasting impression and your wonderful Mom was one of those.  Connie I haven’t seen your Mom since we were seniors in high school but I’ve never forgotten her smile, strength and her ability to have fun. The tributes from her children and grandchildren say it all. She was a special lady, and my heart breaks for all of you.  My sympathy and love during this difficult time. 

I spent a summer from college working with her. I was 18 but she could run circles around me with those little baby steps.  We had so much fun and laughed and sang the summer away.  I have never met a more generous and loving lady. I have many fond memories but will always remember her smile and happy go lucky attitude. I feel truly blessed to have had her in my life. I love her still and always. Rest in peace my loving sister.

Connie I didn't know your Mom, but I know she sure must have been special to raise someone like you!  Adam, Cheryl and I are deeply sorry for your loss.  Wishing you feelings of comfort, moments of peace, and memories of joy, during this difficult time.  Praying you take comfort in knowing there is one more Angel above us.  Holding you & your family in our hearts & surrounding you with love.

There isn’t just one that I could pick from but those days, nights, weekends, holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries at the lake were always the best. I love how she would look at me and say “oh now tony you gotta help me out. We have to eat all them fired tatters so we have a beautiful day today.” I’d stuff myself so I could hear her say “ohhh lalalala, now it’s going to be a beautiful today thanks to you Mr. Tony.” Life will NEVER be the same with out you nana..😭😭😭😭

My most precious memory of sweet Nana... 
Maxwell had brought me down for my first trip to the lake for Christmas. After meeting everyone (and being made to feel as if I was home) Max and I had walked outside. Sweet Nana poked her head out of the door to remind Max not to take me down to that swing. (I had no idea what that meant, until Max explained how everyone that goes to the swing has a baby. Ha!) Little did anyone know... Lukas was already snuggled in my belly. Fast forward 8 long months... Nana comes by for a visit to meet our new bundle of joy. The first words out of her mouth... “Maxwell. I told you not to take her down to that swing!” We just laughed and laughed! 
In all of my 39 years, I have never met a more genuinely sweet soul and I thank this family for sharing her, her precious stories and her cooking with Luke, Whitney and myself. We are sending all of our love and prayers. This world is definitely not as bright without her in it.  ❤️

When I hear Maxine’s name mentioned, I can’t help myself not to smile. She was so full of life. Thoughts come in my head of her fluttering around with her hands up in the air. Always being the perfect hostess.  I can remember a story she told me and Mom (Cissi). She was moving about the house when the doorbell rang, thinking it was one of her girls she answered the door in her little shorty pajama bottoms and a thin tank top. Oh lord, it was her pastor. Maxine was totally shocked and embarrassed, but she got a good laugh out of it.  Another time we took a family girls trip. With 30 years different in age, we both got up that morning wearing the same silly top and blue jean skirt. She was rocking it!
We’ve taken a few vacations together and once stayed at my brother Bobby’s and Sister-in-law Sally house. That night we played Dominos. Bobby was ragging on Maxine, calling her rubber neck, peeking at his marble. We were shocked at Bobby’s remarks, but Maxine got a huge kick out of him cutting up with her. They were best buddies that week. When Bobby heard the news of Maxine, he was very upset, and that night dreamed of her. She was singing and moving about the kitchen.  It feels like she is standing right here next to us. I can’t see her any other way. So happy and full of life. 


My favorite memory of Maxine goes back to Whispering Hills days. She loaded all of us kids in the car and took us to the drive-in to see Night of the Living Dead. All of us kids were scared from the moving.  It was late at night and bedtime when we got home. Once we settled down in bed a White Ghost came scurrying down the hall.  We all screamed like crazy!!! Only to find out that it was Maxine with a white sheet over her, she loved to joke and laugh, loved her dearly! 

One of my fondest memories of Maxine was when she first moved to the lake. 
They had been busy unpacking and after they finished, Maxine suggested they take a bath, we all walked down to the lake to find there was a huge hole in the rocks. 
The warm clean water was heated by the sun, it was like their own hot tub and getting back to nature. Maxine was a lifesaver to me, after I left the kid’s Dad, she took great care of me. Max means the world to me. I feel I could never repay the kindness. 


I will always remember her tenacity, her strength and her ability to love unconditionally. Yes, she may have gotten upset from time to time and who wouldn’t raising 6 wild kids, but you always knew that she loved you unconditionally even if she was angry with you.
She loved teaching children about the bible in bible school. She loved telling stories, making candy for Christmas presents for all her grandchildren. Her chocolate covered peanut butter balls were the best; she knew just the right amount of powdered sugar and just the right amount of chocolate for dipping. You knew exactly what you were going to get in her box of chocolates!  And her Love for the Lord, there was not a room in her home that was not “Blessed” with God’s Grace.  I ask you all to remember your memories of her, hold them dearly, in these you will find Nana’s greatest teachings. These are yours forever, as is her love for you. These are her gifts and “Blessings” and as she would say, “You just hold them!” 


I concur with Russell, best pot of coffee EVER!  As soon as you walked in the door she would say, “Mark can I make ya a pot of coffee!” Will you have a cup with me 😊 for some inexplicable reason she always wanted me to be the “Grill Master”.

I never felt so welcomed as I was in her home. It was very comforting, and she made the best cup of coffee ever!!!! 

The kids were talking about her 3-legged bear last night	❤ I loved playing games with her late at night. Her making up rules as we went along. She was the best.

Lifetime of memories. To those who knew her knew her well. She was one in a million. When her feet hit the floor, she was up & running. First thing always make your bed. Yep she did always & taught us well, everyone had chores at home. If the bed wasn’t made right, she would direct you how and off goes the covers mattress & took the bed apart & put it all back together. We all learned the technique real fast in fact we would try to pay each other to make moms bed but we all learned how to do it correctly. I can say she taught us all how to multitask working at restaurant with her. We all learned to carry 8 plates on our left arm without no tray & full of food then 2 in the left hand. It was always about balance. We soon graduated to caring 6 cups of coffee full &no tray. The trick was to hold your breath, lol She was 4 foot 11 & she held many titles, mom, boss, sister ,wife and security .When there was a problem at work they would call security & you guess it, 4foot 11 & she managed to handle it all .I can remember her walking across a gravel road approx. 1 mile & 1/2 with a 22 strapped to her to pick up me & my sister .Wild Bobcats were on loose & she always was ready. She didn’t have luxuries we had a well & drew water &heated with a pot belly stove. We learned to walk the swinging bridge carrying vegetables from the garden. She was born during the depression. She loved canning vegetables from her garden and one year we canned 110 qtrs. of green beans loved to share her memories with everyone. These are just a few. She loved each & everyone & she taught us well! 

I hope that your grandkids keep her legacy alive. You guys are being handed the Keys to the Kingdom.❤

I loved when I was little and Travis and I would stay with her for weeks and she would give us veggies to try and catch the wild rabbits who lived under the shed, she had me convinced that the weeping willow in her front yard on whispering hills was called that cause it was sad when I left. Or the times she said “now you better stay off that swing” if I were to sit on it with a boyfriend.. cause every couple who sent on it got pregnant! G going fishing on the pontoon and coming back and frying up all the fish for dinner.. Sunday morning big breakfasts at the lake, waking up to the smell of sausage and bacon... the fact the even though Jake is 20 she still referred to him as baby Jake.. How
whenever she spoke to Papaw, she would always address him as “Bill White” her purple pinto.. I have so many. 💔


Nana, there was NO one like her, she loved whole heartily but wasn’t scared to tell it like it is... 😉
She was the rock of our family!!
Have so many memories.. swinging on the red swing at rough river, her always being silly.
She was the best storyteller I’ve ever known.
She had so much spunk and spirit, it was infectious.
I loved her hugs and her calling me “Airze Bearzie” 🥰
She was loved by so many and was such a beautiful soul!
Even though my heart is broken into pieces, I will always remember all the great memories and know someday I will see her again!

There are so many memories I wish I could tell. She always told so many stories about me as a baby or child to every one of my friends she met. One memory I am extremely grateful for is how much she was there for me during the hardest time of my life. I will never forget her reassurance to me that I was going to survive and come out of everything better. I feel so extremely grateful to have had that special girl’s night with nana and Chrissy and I will remember it and her words during every hard moment going forward in my life. I hope everyone remembers that nana would want us to stay close as a family and we can keep her memory and wishes going forward in life. I love you all.

Some of my favorite memories:

Hearing her childhood stories & seeing the joy it brought her remembering those stories.
Watching her agree with Travis or say yes to something when she didn’t have the slightest clue what he said.
Seeing her face light up when she had all her family together in her home. Her genuine hugs that made you feel like you were right where you needed to be.


We all know she was the best cook ever and loved having her derby parties with everyone. Great memories especially when I started screaming go baby go❤❤❤after a little whiskey 🥃Derby will never be the same! I miss her so much my heart hurts!
Every morning I would call her around nine or ten always good morning Barbara how u be today? I say I be here. She would say well that’s 90% of it were still here. She would have already made her bed and get ready for the day. She was amazing! We all learned life lessons from her	


Nana was a very special person to us all. I know there are too many memories and moments to put all in one post. I loved so many things about her. My favorite were the times we would sit and talk and tell us girls about her life. She lived such an amazing one and had great stories. I also loved her nana- isms. The only one I will always remember is her saying “I can turn this car on a dime and spit out a nickel!” I hope you’re doing many donuts in heaven. You will always be missed and always be loved.

To all of us, she was many things, a mother, a grandmother, a goof, a god-fearing woman, stern at times, a storyteller, a believer in what’s capable, loyal and loving. She had an amazing life because of the life she lived and the life she gave. She lives in all of us. She is in our blood, our laugh and our temper. Our sense of humor and our ability to love. If we each find that one good thing in us, we will find her. Hold on to that, be true to that and she will never be gone. Be true to what she taught us, and she will be with us forever.
