Mary Katherine “Kathy” Farley Marcum – a nurse, a mentor to many and a friend to all – 81 of Simpsonville, KY departed this earth to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 11th, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at her home.
Born on December 5th, 1939 in Williamson, WV., she was the daughter of the late Edgar M. & Anna Marie Farley.
Married to Dr. James (Jim) S. Marcum in July 1961 and raised two beautiful girls, Deborrah & Kimberly Marcum. She was totally dedicated to her husband and two children in all aspects of their lives.
A graduate of Williamson High School she continued her education at Kentucky Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Louisville, KY to graduate and flourish in her career of 59 years in nursing. Katherine received the “The Daisy Award” for extraordinary nurses in September 2014 while working at Baptist East in Louisville as an RN, Phase II Recovery. Her compassion for so many is just who she is.
A member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Simpsonville, KY for 20 plus years, she was very active in her church with the children’s ministry and loved teaching VBS. Katherine’s faith was a daily walk with God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar & Anna Marie Farley and her daughter, Kimberly F. Marcum.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. James (Jim) S. Marcum of Simpsonville, KY; daughter, Deborrah K. Marcum, her husband Todd Brown of Shelbyville KY; granddaughter, Katherine Isabella Hayse of Louisville, KY; two sisters, Wilberta E. Justice of Frankfort, KY; Muriel L. Morris of Nicholasville, KY; two sister-in-laws, Suzanne, her husband Ray Hager, Phyllis, her husband Tim Newland; and one brother-in-law, Alfred, his wife Connie Marcum. She is also survived by several special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, two of which are lifelong friend since nurses training, Lana Karlen and Pat Highfill, she will be missed by all that knew her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218, with a service to honor the life of Kathy to follow 2 p.m. at the funeral home, Brother Bill Taylor will be officiating. Kathy will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park.
