Preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Valeria Martin; her husband of 48 years, Jack Hammond; and her children, Gregory Hammond and Jacolyn Phelps.

Survived by her son, Gary Hammond (Janet); Lynne Scott (John); and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Hammond was a Christian and a longtime member of Okolona Christian Church. She graduated from Fern Creek High School (1948) and then the Kentucky Baptist Hospital School of Nursing (1951). She worked for a few years at KBH after graduation and then chose to stay home to raise her family of four children. After a break of over 20 years, she went back to work as a skilled nurse at Westminster Terrace. She retired from there in 1993. Mary and Jack enjoyed camping and traveling in their RV until his passing in 2001. Mary was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She always had a passion for helping and caring for others. She always had a smile, a hug, and a kind word for everyone she met. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mary spent her life teaching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren about faith, compassion, responsibility and hard work. She will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A visitation in Mary's honor will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 11AM to 3PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218. A funeral service will follow in the funeral homes chapel at 3PM.
