Martha Lois Roe, age 90, passed away November 9, 2022, at her home in Lyndon, Kentucky. She was born November 18, 1931 to James and Eva Roe of Lyndon. She attended grade schools in Middletown, Buckner and graduated from Lyndon Consolidated Schools. She graduated from the last senior class at Anchorage High School in 1950. The class alumni still meets bi-monthly at the Owl Creek Country Club. In 1950, Anchorage was only High School in Eastern Jefferson County North of Shelbyville Road. She also attended Spencerian College.
Lois worked for General Electric for 40 years starting at their small planning unit in the downtown location, and later relocated to Appliance Park.
She grew up during the great depression and WWII where thrift and saving were ingrained. Everything was saved, and reused if possible. Print dresses were converted into pieced quilts, and there was little cash in circulation. Fruit and vegetable gardens were commonplace; gooseberry bushes from that time remain in her garden from which she made jam as late as this year.
She was accomplished on the piano, kept a riding horse and maintained an extensive flower garden. She also collected dolls
Her main interest was people. She effectively interacted with young and old alike, cheerfully, hopefully, and with an ever present smile. She was the glue of her family, keeping all in contact. She hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas parties and never missed a birthday celebration. She kept contact with family and friends far and near. She loved sending clothing to every new born.
She was charitable, and helped many in need for such things helping a grieving person back to self-sufficiency. She was a devout Christian with an open home for family and friends and workers of her Faith. She had a mid-week Bible study for her Church as well as the Sunday Morning Meeting where always shared something fresh and insightful from her daily prayers and meditation. She had friends from around the world.
She was preceded in death by brothers Jim, Harold and Ray, and sister Martyne Lich. She is survived by brother Thomas (Joe), nephews Terry, Mark, Stuart, Todd, and Jim; nieces Karleen Chambers, Carol Ellison, Gail Gooch, Dawn Resinger and Jennifer Zoeller; and three more generations,
