Lawrence Elkins, Sr. 89, passed away September 24, 2013 at Robley Rex VA Medical Center. He was born on May 21, 1924 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Jesse Clay and Bessie Mae Elkins. He was retired as a supervisor with Ford Motor Truck Plant and was a Veteran in the United States Army. He was a highly decorated WWII Veteran serving in the 773rd Field Artillery division. He was listed in the “Golden Book of Soldiers” in Verdun, France. He enjoyed golfing, swimming and horse racing.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wives, Helen Rinehart Elkins, Catherine Yeary and Elkins.
He is survived by his children, Lawrence Elkins, Jr. and Beverly C. Elkins; a grandson, Christopher Wayne Kyser Jr. and former wife, Mary Colemore.
A celebration of his life will be conducted Friday at 10 am at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road with burial at 1pm at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation will be from 2-8 on Thursday at the funeral home.
