Katherine Ann Hagan Gerstle Wirth, passed away Monday, February 7, 2011, at the age of 80. She was born December 6, 1930 in Louisville to the late Pius Willett Hagan and Valerian Roby Hagan. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Thomas W. Hagan and Kenneth R. Hagan.
She graduated from Sacred Heart High School, and attended St. Mary-of-the-Woods College for one year.
Katherine was involved with the following community organizations: American Legion Auxiliary –Highland Post #201; Queen’s Daughters; Partner – Telephone Pioneers of America – Louisville Chapter, and the St. Joseph’s Sewing Circle (quilt makers).
Katherine, known as Kitty, was a retired bookkeeper, a devoted wife and a loving mother. She was very energetic and had a zest for life, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She married Gene E. Gerstle in 1950, married the late Jerome H. Wirth in 1967, and Roy L. Heck in 1995.
She is survived by Roy L. Heck, her children Julie Sebastian (and her husband Russell) in St. Louis, Missouri, Don Gerstle (and his wife Stefanie) in Tucson, Arizona, Val Gerstle (and her friend Bob Wiedemer) in Cincinnati, Ohio, Amy Gerstle in Louisville, and three grandchildren, Kim Kleinhans (and her husband Mike) in Atlanta, Georgia, Christi Gerstle in Los Angeles, California and Ted Gerstle in Chicago, Illinois. Stepdaughters: Donna Hash (and her husband, Bill); Barbara Stackhouse (and her husband, Bob); Elizabeth Morris (and her husband, Greg); Nancy Weppler (and her husband, Chris); Stepsons: Gary L. Heck (and his wife, Cathy); Michael L. Heck Sr. (and his wife, Terri); ten step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.
A funeral mass of Christian Burial, to Celebrate Katherine's Life, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, by Father David Sanchez, Pastor, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1406 East Washington Street, with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. http://www.sjosephcatholic.org/ .
