Joy Childress Sills, 81, homemaker, and lifetime Louisville resident passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021. She graduated from DuPont Manual High School in 1959. She was married to her high school sweetheart and first love Ken Childress until his death in 1977. She remarried in 1982 to Don Sills and was married until his death in 2003. Joy enjoyed crochet, embroidery, and playing cards. She was an avid reader and excellent cook. She was the best mom and mimi that we ever could have asked for.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband of 18 years, Ken Childress, husband of 20 years, Don Sills, and significant other of 14 years, Art Buchter; parents, Helen and Joseph Kirk; siblings, Johnnie Gay Morris and Joseph Douglas Kirk; great grandson, Cole Mathew Childress; niece, Nikki Kirk; and son-in-law, Kevin Christian.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Tammy Childress Christian, Scott Childress (Kim); grandchildren, Caitlin Gregory (Aaron), Ross Christian (Tori), Shelby Acosta, Logan Childress; great grandchildren, Jordan Christian, Madelyn Gregory, Tristan Acosta, Mason Gregory, Jameson Christian, Preston Childress; a sister, Patricia Kathy Kirk; and many loving extended family and friends.
The Funeral Service will be at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway, 40219 with burial to follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
