Affectionately known as “Joe” to his family and community, he was taken suddenly from this world on December 3rd, 2024 at the age of 63. He was an unquestionably loving & dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and son, whose vibrant spirit, hard-working nature and love for life & music was apparent to anyone he met.
Born on January 5th in Bad Hersfeld, Germany in 1961 to mother Barbara Fay Moore and father Leslie Joseph Moore Sr. (while Joe Sr. was stationed there with the US military) they soon moved back state-side to Kentucky where he would be joined by his 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Known as “Jo-Jo” in his youth, his siblings viewed him as their big protector and the “man of their clan”, a sentiment that they felt into adulthood.
Joe would go on to marry his highschool sweetheart, Anita Mauldin, whom he originally met on the school bus on the way to Bullitt Central High School in Bullitt County, Kentucky. They both graduated in 1979 and eventually settled down in south Louisville on Dixie Highway, where they created a warm home and provided their children Adam, Matthew and Hannah with wonderful childhoods full of love. Joe’s dedication for his family endured for his entire life.
Joe was a printing expert, starting his career at Publisher’s Printing in Shepherdsville, Kentucky in 1979 as a truck driver and quickly moved into printing itself. He would go on to work for all of the major printing houses in Louisville, including Total Color, Coral Graphics and VG Reed. Because of his unwaveringly fun demeanor, kindness and dedication to the craft, throughout his 45-year career he was loved and respected by the printing community across Louisville.
He was an avid fisherman, never missing a moment to drop a line in a nearby stream or take his grandchildren (who affectionately knew him as “Paw-Paw”) out on the lake with his 1980’s fishing boat that he had restored himself. Joe and his brothers and sisters were deeply connected through music; playing guitar and karaoke were staples of their get-togethers, and singing with them were among his most cherished memories.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother Barbara. He is survived by his wife Anita, their two sons; Adam (Rebecca) & Matthew, daughter Hannah, grandchildren; Levi, Marigold & Colman, father Leslie “Joe” Sr., Brothers; James, Montgomery (Monty), Daniel & Steven, Sisters; Anita Kenny & Lisa Rowe, stepmother Lavetta, and half-sisters; Angela Weist & Tori Garia.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 9th from 3pm-8pm. Visitation will continue the next day Tuesday, December 10 at 9am until a celebration of Joe’s life that will begin at 1pm.
Joe will be remembered for his endearing charm with the ability to befriend any stranger, his impact on our community, and his overflowing love and commitment for his friends and family.
