Joan was born in Bradenton, FL to parents John VanDenBosch and Marcia Shannon VanDenBosch. Her childhood was spent in Monrovia, IN. She was a graduate of Indiana Business College and worked at Allison Transmission in Indianapolis for several years in the 1940's. During this time she met and married her life's partner, Douglas W. Hammer. After their first of three daughters was born, she devoted many years of her life to raising her family. Later she enjoyed several years of employment at the First National Bank in Martinsville. After her retirement, she became an achieved watercolor artist, an active member of the Ray Sexton Dance Club, and enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Gardening and working with her beautiful plants was a passion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marcia VanDenBosch; her husband, Douglas; and her brother, Wallace VanDenBosch.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barbara (Garrett) Pardekooper, Linda (Stephen) Neal, Suzanne (Gus) Navarra; sisters, Martha (Bill) Fisher, Elizabeth (Jim) Sheeley; brother, Phillip VanDenBosch; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of a funeral, Joan's memorial visitation for family and friends will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012 at West Union Friends Church, State Road 42, Monrovia, IN. Burial will follow the gathering in the church cemetery.
