Jesse Scott

Jesse Thomas Scott (Jay, JT, Papa) was born 5/30/1933 in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. For the past 50+ years, he has been best known for being the greatest papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jay was an avid Atlanta Braves and Kentucky Wildcat fan and he was a wonderfully crazy man who was loved by many.

Jay graduated from Shepherdsville High School. As a teenager, and into adulthood, Jay was known for his mad skills in baseball, basketball, and track. At the age of 17 Jay signed up for military service. Jay served with the US Navy with active duty during the Korean War. He traveled all over the world on the USS Wisconsin. Jay spent a significant amount of time in Japan and was awarded honors of travel to the Artic Circle, the 180th Meridian, and was indoctrinated into the Ancient Order of the Deep by sailing across the equator. Once Jay had completed his military duty, he returned home and met the love of his life, Marie Young. Jay and Marie married on March 5,1954 and celebrated 66 years of marriage.

After the Navy Jay worked various jobs including L&N until he settled at International Harvester where he was a general foreman until retirement. He was a dedicated poker player, a great golfer, and an excellent bowler, boasting of at least two perfect games.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, his parents, Jane and Jesse Sr. and brothers, Jimmy and Bill Scott. Surviving members include his daughter Patricia Hodges (Butch), his grandchildren Angie Zeller (Steve), Jackie Hodges (James) and Lance Hodges (Stephanie) and his great grandchildren Dylan Hodges, Devan Hodges, Jade Wallace Ronau (Zane), Sam Zeller, great-great granddaughter Savannah, a whole host of loving nieces and nephews in Bardstown, and the greatest neighbors ever, Tate and George.

A visitation for Jay will be held at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218 on Friday August 11, 2023 from 11AM-2PM. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2PM. Jay will be laid to rest in Resthaven Memorial Park.
