Born in Central City, Kentucky Jerry was the son of the late James Morton Harper & Martha Allen. He grew up in the Highland Park neighborhood and graduated from The Male High School, Class of 1967, where he also played baseball. Jerry retired from CSX Transportation after a nearly 40 year career as a Carman, which began in the L&N South Louisville Shops. He enjoyed thrifting at Goodwill, horse racing, Dairy Queen with his grandbabies and going to the beach, especially Daytona Beach. Jerry liked traveling to Gatlinburg; he loved bowling, softball, golf, trivia and cars. He appreciated the fellowship as a member of the St. Martins Brotherhood.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, James & Martha Harper; sisters, Joyce Minor & Linda Sue Harper; nephew, Daton Harper; & former mother – in – law, Mary Hargrove.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Karen Harper; son, Aaron (Lindsey) Harper; daughter, Ashley (Jon) Moses; step – daughter, Jennifer (Rick) Harlan; 3 – grandchildren, Gwendolyn Moses, Eleanor Moses & Corbin Harlan, with a 4th grandchild on the way, Baby Girl Harper; brothers, Bobby Harper & Wendell Harper; nephew, Jason (Jennifer) Harper; mother – in – law, Bernadette Irwin & brother – in – laws, Denny Minor & Kevin (Jennifer) Irwin; plus, a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dignity Chapel of the Evergreen Funeral Home. Jerry will be entombed in St. Mark Mausoleum of the Evergreen Cemetery & Garden Mausoleums. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 12:00 – 8:00 p.m. and then again on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until the Funeral Hour of 2:00 p.m. also at the Evergreen Funeral Home.
