James Robert Mathus, 86 years of age, passed away on September 9, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, to walk with his Lord. He was born on November 8, 1937, in Waddy, Kentucky. He was a member of Ninth & O Baptist Church. He graduated from Eastern High School in 1955. James worked for the Bankruptcy Court for 20 years and enjoyed Square Dancing with the Kentuckiana Square Dance Association.
He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Judy Nowlin Mathus; two step-sons, George (Tina) Townsend, of Milton, Kentucky, and John (Martha) Townsend of Jeffersonville, Indiana; and several cousins from Shelbyville, Kentucky and Crestwood, Kentucky.
James is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Julia (Whitehouse) Mathus.
A funeral for James will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 1:00pm at Evergreen Funeral Home. Visitation will take place Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Evergreen Funeral Home. James will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery.
