Ian was born on June 11th, 1945, in Hitchin, England to the late Mr. George H. Lamb and Mrs. Janet L. Lamb (McCrindle), he was also preceded in death by his loving parents-in-law Mr. Gilbert and Cora Hardin.
After locating to the United States Ian lived in Wilmore, KY then moving on to Charlestown, IN. Ian would later move to Louisville, KY where he would make a home. Ian attended school at Barret Jr. High and Ahrens High where he graduated Class of 1965. After high school Ian joined the Army in 1967 where he would continue his military career for 32 years. During his years in the Army Ian was deployed in the Persian Gulf War (Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm). Ian was a long-time employee of American Standard, later finishing his career at Luther Luckett Correction Facility before retiring.
In 1969 Ian would marry his loving wife of 53 years, Mrs. Donna M. Lamb (Hardin). Ian and Donna went on to have 6 children Ian Robert Lamb Jr., Shawn Lamb Sr., Heather Lamb Devine (Paul), Kevin Lamb (James), Scott Lamb, Rachel Lamb Webb (Chris), as well as 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. There were many others Ian considered as part of his loving family.
Ian was very passionate about many things he loved his family fiercely. Ian was always ready to participate in any shenanigans thrown his way from yard games to videos or anything in between. He especially loved his family vacations to Mexico Beach and French Lick as well as his many adventures with his wife Donna and their many friends. Dad (cappuccino.. if you know.. you know) was always there to support us and cheer us on from the sidelines in everything we did. He loved being a grandpa, being known as gramps to many. Ian is a missing piece that will never be replaced, and we will miss him dearly. Ian loved volunteering and playing bingo at United Crescent Hill Ministries. He was very proud to serve as the President of Ahrens Alumni Association. Ian displayed the utmost respect and love for his Country and cherished the many bonds and relationships he formed with his brothers and sisters in arms.
One of Ian’s many passions was his love for music which was known by all, and he made it clear The Rolling Stones were his absolute all-time favorite. He was known for belting out lyrics and playing the air drums every chance he got. If he wasn’t listening to music, you could always find him cheering on UofL sports, The Bengals, Cincinatti Reds, or the Dodgers.
Ian loved life to the fullest. His bigger-than-life spirit brought joy to anyone he encountered; he loved his friends just the same as family. If you ever had the pleasure of crossing paths with him, you were met with his infectious smile and warm genuine kindness.
I’m in no hurry, I can take my time, oh my ba-ba-la-dum, bam bam ba-da dum... Rolling Stones
