He was born in Canton, OH, on August 14, 1934. He was an Army veteran, a member of the BMW Car Club of America and a lifetime member of the NRA.
Homer loved to drive fast and lived his life under his own terms. He was a beloved husband of 56 years and a doting father and grandfather. Every breath he took was for his family and he did nothing in life without them in his thoughts. For those that knew him well, knew the hard exterior covered a soft heart.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Shirley Reed; daughter, Pam Benzel (Daryl); two grandsons, Justin and Matt Benzel; and a granddaughter, Carley Benzel.
Homer's visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with his service to follow at 2 p.m. at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park .
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to The Wounded Warriors Project.
