Gladys Ilene Towery

91, of Louisville, passed away on June 8, 2011 at Baptist Hospital East from a sudden stroke. Ilene was a native of Berea KY. and had graduated from Berea College, she later received her master in nursing at San Francisco State. Ilene served as a U. S. Army nurse in WWII. After returning to Louisville she retired after thirty years as a nurse with the V.A. Hospital. Ilene never married but she continued her giving ways by treating all her many nieces and nephews like grandchildren. She was a very loving and thoughtful person. Ilene is survived by her loving nephew, Jack Kelly (Jan); two great-nieces, Melanie Gambill and Julia Morrow also a caring niece, Pat Rauh (Adam Sr.) and their seven children, Adam Jr., Al, David, Chris, Jeff, Brian and Jeni. She also is survived by twenty five great-great nieces and nephews. Her Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, June 13, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 till 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
