Elizabeth “Libby” Koshewa peacefully passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, at the age of 97, surrounded by loving family members. She will be remembered as a gentle soul with a strong faith, devoted to her church and family.
Libby was born in Birmingham, AL. She attended Elmhurst College, Northwestern University (B.A.) and the University of Louisville. While studying at Elmhurst, she met her future husband, William Koshewa. They were married for 74 years before his passing in June, 2021. Together they were committed to a life of Christian service. William was ordained in the United Church of Christ and served pastorates in Illinois, Ohio, Florida, and Indiana. Libby wholeheartedly embraced her role of a minister's wife and homemaker. She also pursued her own career as a teacher of young adults with special needs at the Rauch School in New Albany, IN. Libby was also a talented artist, whose paintings, sculpture, and stained glass art adorn homes and churches across the Midwest.
Libby was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lillian Hammond, brother Hirstle Hammond, son-in-law James Burris, grandson Robin Burris, and granddaughter Heather Goodman.
Left to cherish her memory are her five daughters- Carol Rietze (Barry) of Niceville, FL, Joy Smither
(John) of Louisville, KY, Joan Goodman (Jim) of Nashville, IN, Connie Koshewa of Albuquerque, NM, and Kathy Hundsdorfer (Wayne) of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren- Justin Smith (Melissa),
Anna Hamman (James), Susan Keely (Prichard), Jared Goodman (Nicole), Jesse Burris, Kelly Pannullo (Dan), Kyle Hundsdorfer (Whitney); fifteen great grandchildren; and one great, great grandson.
The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at 1:00pm at Evergreen Funeral Home,
4623 Preston Hwy, Louisville, KY, with visitation from 11:00am until the time of the service.
