He was born September 29, 1922 in Erie, PA the only child of Jesse and Lela Hilliker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 40 years, Ella Hilliker; a step-brother, Jack Gillespie; and a step-granddaughter, Cynthia Devereaux
Donald was a 1946 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps reserves in October 1942. He graduated as a fighter pilot and was assigned to the 163rd tactical recon squadron.
He worked at General Electric, where he was a member of the Elfin Society, and retired after 33 years of service. He was also a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church since 1954. In retirement, he volunteered at Wesley House, School for the Blind, and Habitat for Humanity. He was Building Chairman and served on the board at Ronald McDonald House, served on the board of directors at Maryhurst, and also on the board at Kavanaugh Life Enrichment and the Portland Center, which he was instrumental in building.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 27 years, Suzanne Devereaux-Hilliker; his children Laura Novak (Bob), David Hilliker (Jena), Nancy Sullo (Ed), James Hilliker (Sheila); step-children, Michael Devereaux (Betty) and Priscilla Gott (Mike); 7 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Donald’s life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 5, 2013 at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 319 Browns Lane. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1 – 6 PM on Sunday at Arch L. Heady and Son at Westport Village 7410 Westport Rd.
In Lieu of Customary Expressions, donations may be given to St. Matthews United Methodist Church or the Portland Center.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Jefferson Place, Baptist Health Louisville and Hosparus for all of their loving care.
