March 1, 1965-September 16, 2017
Known since elementary school as Bruce, when he and a friend decided to rename themselves, Hendrix is survived by his mother, Shirley Purkey Hendrix, and sister, Holly A.H. Brinegar, both of Williamstown, KY, his father, Donald E. Hendrix of Oak Ridge, TN, and his girlfriend, Sharon Moore, of Jeffersontown, KY. He is also survived by aunts and uncles and numerous cousins.
After graduation from Oak Ridge High School in 1983, this native Oak Ridger became a student at Middle Tennessee State University, where his focus was on the technology of making music. While at MTSU, Hendrix joined the early Papa John pizza firm. Going with it when headquarters were moved to Louisville, he stayed with the company until a variety of medical problems forced his retirement in 2017, after 23 years with what is now Papa John International.
Aside from the food service industry, Hendrix enjoyed creative and musical hobbies. Even when young, he created board games for fun, performed his own plays, and wrote in a variety of styles, especially developing graphic stories. He became fluent in Spanish and took pleasure in learning about foreign languages from fellow employees. He liked audio-visual activities and playing the guitar, and modified several stringed instruments for his own satisfaction.
Cremation will be handled by Arch L. Heady and Son Southern Funeral Home in Louisville, KY. Burial of cremains will be performed later in a family ceremony.
