David was born to Newton Combs Shouse, Jr. and Hattie Moore Shouse on July 1, 1930.
He was a graduate of George Rogers Clark Elementary School, Male High School, The
University of Louisville and the University of Louisville Law School. He served his country in the army. He began his legal career in the old City Law Department and was in-house counsel for the old Meridian Insurance company for over thirty years.
A proud Louisvillian, he was for many years a Republican Precinct Captain, a manager for several teams at Germantown Little League, and was an avid fan of baseball and U of L atheletics. He loved history and poetry and dogs and travel and bourbon and practicing law.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Lila June Seeley Shouse; one daughter, Sally Anne Shouse Doyle (David) of Indianapolis, three sons; David M. Shouse, Jr, Scott M. Shouse (Dana Payne), Theodore S. Shouse ( Dr. Elizabeth G. Dinkins) all of Louisville; and two grandchildren, Jonathan and Rachel Doyle. He is also survived by his three brothers, Newton Combs Shouse, III, Donald Shouse, and Richard Shouse.
A favorite poem of David’s contained the sound advice, “make the most of life you may, life is short and wears away”.
A service to celebrate David’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave. with private interment at Cave Hill. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday evening.
